1948 - 2008, 60 years of FISM™!

2008 is also a year synonymous with new and promising magic events.

Not ignoring the public debate on the observance of human rights in China, FISM™ has clearly marked its position.

All that just one year ahead of the FISM World Championships of Magic™ 2009 to be held in Beijing, China in July 2009. So stay tuned, there is plenty of great magic to come with FISM™ in 2008.

We plan to release an anniversary book to remember great moments of past FISM™ conventions. We need your pictures to illustrate such a book. Please contact us if you have any pictures from the past that could be published. 

In connection with the persistent protests against the recent situation in Tibet, other human rights issues, and the public debate whether to boycott the Beijing Olympic Games, FISM™ has expressed its position clearly. FISM™ strongly disapproves of any form of violation of human rights, and of any restrictions of democratic freedom by any group of people, or by any country or its leaders. It is FISM’s belief however, that boycotting a cultural event like the World Championships of Magic™ will surely not contribute to any improvement of whatever kind. Remaining in contact can instead potentially create opportunities for mutual respect and understanding and may open ways for the improvement of human rights issues. Many of you have expressed your opinion welcoming the DVD release of the FISM World Championships of Magic™ 2006. Thank you for your critics, which were generally positive and always constructive. We would like to thank you all for your trust, and for giving us your feedback that will help improve the next production. This is the very first time that FISM™ releases an official DVD of a FISM™ convention, and none of the commentators missed the historical aspect of the event. The DVD is already a collectors item. For the first time ever, the FISM European Championships of Magic™ were to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria from 6 to 9 November 2008. Unfortunately we regret to announce the decision of the board of FISM™ Europe to relocate the European Championships of Magic™ 2008, as well as postponing the event to a later date.

Following unexpected and exceptional difficulties arisen in the organisation, FISM™ Europe had to make this tough decision after discussions with the FISM™ Presidium and the Bulgarian Magic Union, organiser of the event.

FISM™ Europe is currently working hard with its partners and club members to organise a new event and further details will be released in a press announcement.
